Gorak photograph collection consists of photographs taken by Edwin F. Gorak of the progression of activities of the 45th Infantry Division from Anzio, Italy, in April 1944, through France and Germany to their embarkation and trip home aboard the U.S.S. Excelsior in September 1945. The photos are both a travelogue and views of the destruction and devastation of war. There are views of Rome and Pompei, women washing clothes in a stream, demolished buildings, and military equipment. Included are some photos of his unit's activities, the 158th Field Artillery Regiment, photos of captured German soldiers, refugees, and atrocities at Dachau Concentration Camp.
